Prof. Dr. Bidya Nath Koirala

Dr. Bidya Nath Koirala was a Professor at Tribhuvan University. He has long and exemplary experience in strategic planning and programming for institutions of national importance like National Planning Commission (NPC), Ministry of Education, Prime Minister’s Office, and Equal Access, and of international importance like The Asia Foundation Nepal, Asian Development Bank, JICA, UNESCO and European Commission on Education.
In these parts, his main drive has been the development of curriculum, decentralization of education, educational components of the national plan, non formal education, addressing gender, caste, ethnicity, and disability issues in education. Likewise, he also carries a long experience of assessing and reviewing educational projects and institutions. He has been recipient of several awards in academic excellence. He has authored seven books and published more than 250 articles.
Dr. Koirala has been one of the first wave of educationists in Nepal who saw the value of open and distance education from the outset. Also, he is specifically keen to find ways to take education to the most rural, remote and marginalized population of Nepal through a dual mode education system. Currently he is working to ensure educational access of the Madarasa and Gumba educated students in the mainstream through equivalency programs.
Dr. Koirala has been reorienting teachers to make education practical and people as well as production oriented through dialogue and discourse. He is also working to enable teachers to share their learning and innovation among the fellow teachers as reciprocal training. He is also supervising Phd. D. students of different universities of the country.
